David Carrel

David R. Carrel, 55, passed away November 29, 2011 at the home of his parents, Jim and Maggie McMillin, in Butler after a long battle with cancer.  He was surrounded by his family and loved ones.

David was born November 11, 1956 to Lawrence and Margaret Carrel. He lived his early years in Fulton, KS, and served in the Army from 1976-79. Dave spent the last 10 years in Branson, Mo., working in construction.  He spent many hours fishing, caving, and roaming the rivers, creeks and hills of the Ozarks in Southern Missouri and northern Arkansas.

David was preceded in death by his father Lawrence Carrel of Harrisonville; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Carrel and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Lay of Fulton, KS; and his black lab, Bear. He is survived by his parents Jim and Maggie McMillin of Butler; beloved sister and caregiver Kimberly Carrel (Terry Murphy) and dog Sadie of Kansas City, Mo.; brother Larry Carrel of Butler; nieces Jennifer Carrel Evans and family of Olathe, KS; step-mother Karen Carrel of Harrisonville, Mo.; step-grandmother Anna Mae Carrel of Nevada, Mo.; best friend and companion Stacy Winn of Branson, Mo.; Cody McGee of Branson, Mo.; Holly Winn of Laurie, Mo.; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Dave had a special friendship with animals, especially dogs. There was no dog that wasn’t his friend.

Cremation, with memorial services 5:00 PM Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660) 679-0009 with Pastor Ron Dunlap presiding. Visitation prior to services from 4-5:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of David are suggested to the American Cancer Society.     Just heard the news from Dad. I always remember cousin David as a kind person from the times when we all used to get together at grandpa and grandmas farm in Fulton. Prayers to all of you. Love, Valerie
