Florence was born May 4, 1929 in Freeman, Mo., daughter of Floyd Wesley and Nellie (Morrison) Hunter. She was at various times a caregiver for people in need, and she also enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren.  Florence was an avid reader, and her family will always remember that she could answer nearly every Jeopardy question because of all she had read.

Florence was a lifelong member of the South Fork Baptist Church near Drexel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers.  She is survived by her children: Roberta Kelly of Kansas City North; Mary Jane Scheib and husband Grant Burns of Stilwell, Ks.; Esther Scheib of North Kansas City; and Rose McMahan of Drexel. Additional survivors include six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Kenneth Hunter and wife Sharon of Adrian, Mo.

Visitation will be from 6:30-8:00 PM Thursday, September 8, 2011 at the Mullinax Funeral Home in Drexel, (816) 657-4400. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday at the South Fork Baptist Church near Drexel, with Pastor Steve Bartholomew presiding. Burial will follow in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, Mo. Memorial contributions in Florence’s memory are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association, or Hospice of Kansas, and may be left in care of the funeral home.  Written messages and memories may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Florence was a good friend and sister-in-law to my mother. I wish we could have spent more time together, but circumstances made it not possible. My prayers go out to the family.
