Dale Lacy

Dale Thomas Lacy was born on the twenty-fifth day of April, 1933 and departed this life on the twenty-fourth day of July, 2011 after a long & courageous battle with cancer.

Dale, the only son of Clarence Earl & Edith May Lacy was born in Coldwater Township, Cass County, Missouri.  His original American ancestors came to this country & helped settle the vast plains of the tall grass prairie along the Missouri/Kansas border.

Dale attended Coldwater and Dodger Point grade schools graduating from Drexel High School in 1951.  He was a member of the Drexel Baptist Church.

Dale & Jessie Katherine Hill were united in marriage on December 26, 1955.  To this union three children were born:  Deborah Kay, Daniel Dale & Sheryl Ann.

Dale lived his entire life in the South Fork community of Cass County with the exception of a short time spent with relatives near Cheyenne, Wyoming due to his asthmatic condition.

In the early years, Dale, along with his life-long partner, raised crops and livestock.  His efforts would eventually become solely focused on cattle.  Over the years Dale developed a herd of registered Polled Herefords that became nationally recognized.  Due to health reasons, the herd was sadly dispersed in 1992.  With improved health, Dale slowly built a herd of registered Red Angus which became his sole focus for the past nineteen years.

His influence can be found in herds throughout the United States & his accomplishments have been recognized over the years in many ways.  He was honored in 1992 by the American Polled Hereford Association by having the “Dale Lacy Standard of Perfection” show in conjunction with the American Royal.  The Missouri Hereford Association honored him in 1992 as “Breeder of the Year” and inducted him into the “Hall of Fame” in 2006 based upon his superior genetics program and their lasting impact on the breed.

He is preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife, Kay of the home; Three children, Debbie Wheeler, Dan Lacy and wife Kelly of Drexel and Sherry Keegan of Harrisonville; 5 grandchildren, Amy Mayabb, Steve Wheeler, Patrick Keegan, Derek Lacy and Richard Keegan; 5 great-grandchildren, Cole, Alyssa, Hailee, Cali and Landon Dale.  He will be sadly missed.

Visitation will be from 7-9 PM Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Mullinax Funeral Home Drexel Chapel (816) 657-4400. Funeral services will be at 10 AM Thursday at South Fork Baptist Church near Drexel, the Revs. Joe Crook and Steve Bartholomew presiding.  Burial will follow in Sharon Cemetery, Drexel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Drexel chapter of the FFA, and may be left in care of the funeral home.  Written messages and memories may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

  15. To all of the family I am so sorry I know you know that Dale is at rest now, and probably giving someone trouble over how many beer’s he get to have before he eats his dinner or what foot ball team is going to win the game, no matter what a hard time he gave us he always ended his time at BBQ with what ever kind of hard candy was his favorite at that time. I always enjoy visiting with him he was a good person and a hard worker, and expected everyone else to be the same. He will be saddly missed. It will be hard in the days ahead just lean on each other, and remember all the good times. God Bless you all Nancy Ketcher

  17. Vivian (Hatch) Sickman says:

Kay: I am so very sorry to read of Dale death. The cancer problems has hit so many of our love ones. From my grandchildren, my son and my husband. Also many of my brothers and sisters. We wonder sometimes how we were so fortunate, it passed us bye. It been 9 years now since my husband has passed away. With each passing day, it get a little easier for us to understand why God has chosen our love one. Keep you chin up and thank God for taking those one who suffered the most. For there is no pain in heaven. Love from your long, lost friend from 1st grade.

  18. Evelyn (Mosby) Johnson says:

Kay, I was shocked to read Dale’s name in the obits on the computer this morning. (I only see the obits from the Democrat paper on Saturday.) I am so sorry for all. May the Lord give you strength and peace as you go about each day. When my husband died I took it as a blessing from the Lord—-he wasn’t suffering anymore. Take care. Love ya.

  20. Norris and Eva Smith says:

    Dear Kay & Sherry,
I was so sorry when I read about Dales’ passing. Norris and I bought a beef from him one time and it was the best beef we had ever had. I didn’t know Dale until I started working for Sherry at Branding Iron. He was so funny and always such an outgoing man, I absolutely loved it when he and Kay would come in. Norris’s mother just passed away on July 6th so we know approximately what your family is going through. I am sure they are both in Heaven now so we have them as angels watching over all of us. As difficult as it is they are in a place now where they are no longer in pain. Norris’s mother was in pain for a very long time as I am sure Dale having had cancer was also in alot of pain. Where they are now they no longer have pain. May God Bless your whole family and May the Angels watch over you.
    May God Bless,
    Norris and Eva Smith

God Bless you and your family
