Kaye Morris, 65 of Butler, passed away on Thursday, February 3rd, at Bates County Memorial Hospital.
Kaye was born on November 19th, 1945, to Mehrle (Mac) and Marie Louise (Myers) McDermed in Girard Kansas. Kaye was a 1963 graduate of Greenville High School in Kentucky. She was united in marriage to Gene Ladon (Don) Morris in October, 1964. The family moved to Missouri in 1972, where Kaye was a homemaker and mother to her 2 children, Tracy and Shannon.
Kaye enjoyed sewing, and in 1974 she decided to share her talents and opened her own shop known as “Kaye’s Upholstery”. She ran the business for 17 years until arthritis forced her to close. Everyone who knew Kaye, knew that she did not know the word “lazy”. She was a very hard and dedicated worker. Upon closing her business, she went right to work beside her husband at the Butler Country Club until her retirement in 2008.
Kaye enjoyed reading, playing games on the computer, being with her church family, especially when they would go to Kansas City to feed the homeless. This made an impact on her and she truly believed that this was something that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. After losing her soul mate, and one true love Don in 2007, her reason for living was her 5 grandkids. She truly enjoyed being involved with any activity her grandkids were doing, especially watching their sports. She will always be their #1 fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don Morris, one sister, Marilyn McDermed,, her father Mehrle (Mac) McDermed and her mother Marie McDermed. Kaye touched so many lives. She will be missed so much and loved by so many.
Kaye is survived by her daughter, Tracy Nelson and husband Mark of Amoret, Mo; her son Shannon Morris and wife Krista of Butler, Mo; one brother Marty McDermed and wife Juanita of Sanger Texas, one sister, Shirley Lechien and husband Bruce of Pittsburg Kansas, two sister in laws Hilda Hearld of Greenville, Ky, and Roxie Missanelli (John) of Cadiz, Ky; five grandchildren: Mallory Nelson, Morgan Nelson, Kiersten Morris, Kayla Morris and Dylan Morris; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of close family and friends.
Visitation will be from 2-4 PM Sunday, February 6 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660) 679-0009. A funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Monday, February 7 with Pastor Ron Dunlap officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Memorial contributions in memory of Kaye are suggested to Happy Hill Church of God, to assist at City Mission in feeding the homeless.

I haven’t known Kay for all that long, but met her at the gym while she was working there. We had some good visits. She was such a fun and neat lady.
May the Lord wrap his arms around you and give you peace and comfort. Remember all the fun times you have had with her as memories can not be taken away.

We were shocked and saddened by the news of Kaye’s death. May God give you comfort and strength in this time of grief. I always enjoyed visiting with her at the gym. We shared worries when our sons were teenagers and often assured each other that one day they would grow up and they did. We especially send our condolences to Shannon, Krista and family.
Shannon and Tracy, So sorry for your loss. Kay will be missed by many people. It was always a pleasure to visit with her. Believe me she knew how much her family loved her. God bless.
Wanted to send my thoughts and prayers to the family of ‘Grandma Kaye:’ she will be greatly missed, but is in good hands and is now enjoying her time with ‘Papa Don.’

So sorry for your loss. Your mom was such a wonderful person. I met her when I worked for your grandmother , Marie . My prayers are with all of you. May god Bless all of you.
She looks well to the ways of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands,
and let her works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31
